Why Storytelling Matters

Facts tell, but stories sell. People remember stories 22x more than facts alone.

πŸ“Š "Our app has 10,000 users"
vs.
πŸ’‘ "We're helping 10,000 students
save 5 hours per week,
giving them more time for what matters"

The 6-Element Story Framework

1. 🌍 The World

Set the scene. What's the current situation?

"Students spend 15+ hours/week on busywork"

2. 😫 The Problem

What pain does this cause?

"They're stressed and burned out"

3. πŸ’‘ The Insight

Your unique perspective.

"AI can handle this in seconds now"

4. πŸš€ The Solution

Your product/service.

"Our AI assistant does the busywork"

5. 🎯 The Impact

What changes after using your solution?

"Students get 5 hours back per week"

6. 🌟 The Vision

The better future you're creating.

"A generation of less stressed, more creative students"

The 5-Slide Pitch Deck

Keep It Simple:

Slide 1: The Hook (Problem)

Start with the problem, not your solution. Make them feel the pain.

Slide 2: The Solution

Show your product in action. Demo > Description. Use screenshots or video.

Slide 3: The Market & Traction

Who are your customers? What progress have you made? (Users, revenue, growth)

Slide 4: How It Works (Business Model)

How do you make money? What's your strategy?

Slide 5: The Ask & Vision

What do you need? (Investment, partners, customers) What's the big vision?

Design Tips:

  • Big text, few words (30-point font minimum)
  • One idea per slide
  • Use images, not bullet points
  • Less is moreβ€”remove everything unnecessary

Presentation Skills

The 3 Ps of Great Presentations:

1. πŸ—£οΈ Presence
  • Eye contact: Look at your audience, not your slides
  • Body language: Stand tall, use hand gestures naturally
  • Voice: Speak clearly, vary your pace and tone
  • Enthusiasm: If you're not excited, why should they be?
2. πŸ’¬ Practice
  • Practice out loud at least 5 times
  • Record yourself and watch it back
  • Practice with friends and get feedback
  • Know your first and last lines by heart
3. 🎯 Pace
  • Don't rushβ€”pauses are powerful
  • Aim for 1-2 minutes per slide
  • Save time for questions
  • Have a backup plan if you run short/long

Common Mistakes to Avoid:

  • ❌ Reading from slides
  • ❌ Too much text on slides
  • ❌ Speaking too fast
  • ❌ No eye contact
  • ❌ Going over time

Handling Q&A

How to Answer Questions Like a Pro:

  • Listen fully: Don't interrupt, wait for the complete question
  • Pause before answering: Take 2 seconds to think
  • "Great question!": Buy time and show respect
  • Be honest: "I don't know, but I'll find out" is better than making things up
  • Bridge back: Connect your answer to your key message

Tough Question Example:

Q: "What if Google builds this?"
A: "Great question! While big companies have resources, they move slowly and focus on massive markets. We're laser-focused on high school students and can iterate much faster. Plus, we understand this audience better than anyone."
